Everyone is well aware that power adapters are widely used in consumer electronics, with most delivering output powers of 100 watts or less, and market demand is growing rapidly. They are employed in applications such as electric‑bike battery chargers, small‑size LCD TVs, laptops, printers, DVD players, and set‑top boxes. In the early days, most power adapters relied on linear transformers; however, as consumer electronics have come to demand higher efficiency and wider input voltage ranges, coupled with rising costs for copper, iron, and labor, the traditional linear transformers in these adapters have largely been replaced by switch‑mode power supplies.
But do you know what causes interference with power adapters? Today, a professional from Shenzhen…
Power adapter manufacturer Let me tell everyone about it.
Reduce the area enclosed by high‑voltage, high‑current circuits, particularly those involving the transformer primary winding, switching transistors, and power‑supply filter capacitor networks; minimize the area occupied by the output rectifier circuit and freewheeling diode circuit, as well as the DC filtering circuit; decrease the leakage inductance of the transformer and the parasitic capacitance of the filter capacitors; and employ filter capacitors with higher resonant frequencies, among other measures.
To minimize internal interference in power adapters, consider the following measures: ensure single-point grounding for digital and analog circuits, as well as for high‑current circuits and low‑current circuits—particularly those involving current and voltage sensing—to reduce common‑impedance coupling and ground‑loop effects; when routing traces, maintain adequate spacing between adjacent lines and take signal characteristics into account to prevent crosstalk; and lower the impedance of the ground plane. For electrostatic discharge (ESD), employ TVS diodes and appropriate grounding protection, increase the clearance between low‑level signal circuits and the enclosure, or select components that are inherently resistant to ESD disturbances.
With regard to external electromagnetic interference, such as surges and lightning strikes, the surge‑protection capabilities of the AC input and DC output ports should be optimized. For lightning protection, a combined approach using zinc oxide varistors and gas discharge tubes is recommended.
