Selection and Usage Considerations for LED Switching Power Supplies

发布时间:2020-07-06

Increasing the operating frequency of LED switching power supplies is the direction of their development. Higher frequencies enable smaller form factors and expand the range of applications, particularly in high‑tech fields, thereby driving the miniaturization and lightweight design of advanced products. Moreover, the advancement and widespread use of switching power supplies play a crucial role in conserving energy, optimizing resource utilization, and protecting the environment. So, what should be kept in mind when selecting and operating LED switching power supplies?

 LED power supply

1. Prior to shipment, LED switching power supplies are tested with a resistive load. If they are to be used with capacitive or inductive loads, please specify this at the time of order.
2. Leakage Current: When multiple power supplies are in use and share a common grounding point, the total leakage current is the sum of the leakage currents of each unit. In such cases, it is essential to verify the reliability of the protective earth conductor and ensure that the grounding resistance meets the specified requirements to prevent electric shock.
3. To ensure adequate heat dissipation, the component should typically be mounted in a location with good air circulation or attached to the chassis so that heat can be transferred through the enclosure.
4. For users whose power supply’s FG terminal is not grounded, it is normal to feel a slight tingling sensation when touching the enclosure or the output. When floating‑grounded, the FG terminal will output approximately 110 V AC with respect to earth—this is determined by the internal design of the power supply.
5. The power cord of a metal‑encased device is typically connected to the protective earth (FG) terminal; ensure reliable grounding to guarantee safety, and never mistakenly connect the enclosure to the neutral line.
6. Definition of AC input power: Input power = Output power / (Input voltage × Power factor × Efficiency).
7. For loads requiring symmetrical dual-channel output, prioritize using a power supply with symmetrical outputs.
8. For high-power LED switching power supplies, there are typically three or more “+” input terminals and “–” output terminals. In fact, these terminals all belong to the same output circuit; they are provided as separate terminals internally to facilitate wiring for the user.
9. Before energizing and conducting a trial run after installation is complete, please re‑inspect and verify all wiring at the terminal blocks to ensure that input and output, AC and DC, single‑phase and polyphase, positive and negative terminals, as well as voltage and current ratings, are all correctly connected. Only then may the equipment be powered on and operated.
