Is fast charging safe?
At present, the fast charging of each company is still technically guaranteed. Because in a set of fast charging solutions, the power management module has already preset the highest voltage, current, temperature and other safety protection mechanisms that the mobile phone battery can withstand, including temperature protection, short-circuit protection, over-discharge protection, over-current protection, over-voltage protection and many other protection technologies, to be precise, fast charging technology is safe.
Will fast charging affect battery life?
From the principle point of view, the damage of the battery basically comes from two aspects:
On the one hand, when the battery is charged and discharged, the cathode and anode of the battery will shrink and expand with the release and absorption of ions. Long-term fast charging will destroy the materials on the battery and shorten the battery life.
On the other hand, during fast charging, due to the relatively high current, the thermal effect of the current will be aggravated, causing the battery to generate high temperature, which will also cause the capacity to suddenly decrease and the battery cell to be permanently damaged.
Everyone knows that one of the advantages of lithium batteries is that they can be recharged at any time at a convenient time, instead of having to run out of electricity before recharging. So, what is the charging cycle?
A charging cycle means the process of using all the power of the battery from full to empty, and then from empty to full. This is not the same as charging once. To put it simply, the 600 mAh lithium battery, you charge from 0 mAh to 400 mAh for the first time, and use N mAh when you use it. Then you charge 150 mAh again, and then use N mAh. A: The last charge is 100 mA. When the last charge reaches 50 mA, one charge cycle of this battery will come. (400+150+50=600)
A lithium battery used only half of its power on the first day, and then it was fully charged. If the situation persists the next day, that is, use half of the charge and charge it twice in total. This can only be counted as one charging cycle, not two. Therefore, it may usually take several times to complete a cycle. Every time a charging cycle is completed, the power will decrease a bit. This is why many people who use lithium battery mobile phones often say: "This broken mobile phone can be used for 4 days when I just bought it, but now it can only be used for 3 and a half days with a single charge." However, this reduction in power consumption is very small. High-quality batteries will still retain 80% of the original power after charging for multiple cycles. Many lithium-powered products are still used as usual after two or three years. Of course, the life of the lithium battery needs to be replaced in the end.
The life of a lithium battery is generally 300-500 charging cycles. Assuming that the power provided by a complete discharge is 1Q, if the reduction of power after each charging cycle is not considered, the lithium battery can provide or supplement 300Q-500Q of power in its life. From this we know that if you charge 1/2 each time, you can charge 600-1000 times; if you charge 1/3 each time, you can charge 900-1500 times. By analogy, if it is charged randomly, the number of times is variable. In short, no matter how it is charged, the total power of 300Q-500Q is constant. Therefore, we can also understand it this way: the life of a lithium battery is related to the total charge capacity of the battery, and has nothing to do with the number of recharges. Deep discharge and deep charge and shallow discharge and shallow charge have little difference in the impact on the life of the lithium battery.
In fact, shallow charging and shallow charging are more beneficial to lithium batteries. Only when the product's power module is calibrated for lithium batteries, it is necessary to deep discharge and deep charge. Therefore, products powered by lithium batteries do not need to be constrained by the process. Everything is convenient and can be charged at any time without worrying about affecting the lifespan.
Therefore, lithium batteries also have life problems under normal charging conditions. Each charge will cause a little damage to the battery, but the damage is minimal, and it takes up to a year or more to show up on the mobile phone. Therefore, whether it is fast charging or ordinary charging, it will actually cause irreversible damage to the battery, but the damage of fast charging will be slightly stronger than that of ordinary charging. However, under the various guarantees of the current fast charging technology, this battery damage is still in a safe and reasonable state.
At present, most companies that provide fast charging solutions have not given the impact on battery life from the perspective of batteries, but under the national standard, the battery capacity is more than 80% after the battery is charged and discharged 500 times. It is qualified within one year. It has little effect on use.
If you are used to changing a mobile phone in one to two years, or are willing to change a new battery, the impact of fast charging is minimal.
